Every week on Six Months Later… Tara Newton-Wordsworth and Matthew Chadourne interview interesting people about their lives and hopes for the future and then check in again in six months to see how everything worked out. Then we edit it all together into one long interview to create an audio time capsule.

Episode 51 – Kathryn Mather

Comedian and Podcaster Kathryn Mather is our guest this week and we talk about all her big days out, all her little wins, her many health issues, her work on her new hour, and her thoughts on Vienna. Plus Tara gets hydrated and Matthew hope for just one piece of good news.

 

Episode 50 – Tom Walker

You probably know this episode’s guest Tom Walker as his opinionated, foul mouthed creation Jonathan Pie but he’s so much more. We discuss his reasons for creating Pie in the first place, his recent collaborations with the New York Times, his attempts to stretch out creatively, moving house, and get some exciting pet news in the second half. Plus, Tara’s worries about sharks ultimately helps put her place in the universe in perspective and Matthew finds the perfect children’s programming for him (and probably his son too).

Episode 49 – Helen Zaltzman

It’s been a long six months since we last talked to podcaster Helen Zaltzman (in that it is actually seven months because Matthew was sick and then very busy). We talk about her podcasting career, her excellent show The Allusionist, her search for new challenges, her patchwork crafts, and we speculate about he future of haircuts. Plus, Tara’s surfing is the hot topic of the last six months and Matthew takes some bold stances.

 

Episode 48 – Mark Rice-Oxley

It’s a new year (or was anyways) and we are ringing it in with Guardian Journalist/Editor and Author Mark Rice-Oxley. We talk about politics, world events, career changes, journalistic freedom, and dog poo and he makes a surprisingly high number of accurate predictions (for this podcast). Plus, Matthew plans a festival, Tara plans a new life in Australia, and they also make some accurate predictions too (what is happening around here!?)

This week we talk to comedian and actor Ever Mainard about their upcoming (and then past) top surgery, comedy, life, slop, and all kinds of nice topics for the nice people Plus, Matthew and Tara talk pigs!

This week we talk to triple threat(!) writer/actor/comedian Danielle Perez (@divadelux). We talk about her rad fire pit, her secret Netflix project, fun summer fashions, and all her cool accolades. Episode 45 – Myq Kaplan

Sorry we are a bit late but this week we have the hilarious, cerebral, loquacious, and charming Myq Kaplan (@myqkaplan). We get to talk to him about comedy, podcasting, Buddhism, love, enlightenment, music, and the importance of “choosing the mountain”. Plus, Tara spends two weeks locked up (which may be her preferred form of living) and Matthew thinks up some very bee-coming Halloween costumes.

 

Episode 44 – Coree Spencer

Coree Spencer (@CoreeSpencer) comedian, podcaster, author, and founder of The Cinderblock Comedy Festival (A HUGE inspiration for Matthew’s own comedy festival) joins us to talk about drugs, working in a haunted house, her new book (I’m Not Okay, You’re Not Okay), and the dissolution of her marriage. (some topics are lighter than others). Plus, Matthew is abandoned by someone who he once trusted and Tara takes a vacation inside of her permanent vacation.

This week we’re lucky enough to talk to Canada’s Sweetheart Simone Belshaw, about her decision to quit stand-up for medical reasons, her old rat, her new cats, her mental health journey, and all her amazing ideas/hairbrained schemes. Absolute legend, Kaytiln Bayley takes time out of her busy life to reconnect with us and tell us what’s been happing over the last year. Babs Gray (@BabsGray) is a comedian, writer, podcaster, accidental investigative journalist, and one of the founders of the #FreeBritney movement. We talk to her about her investigative podcast all about Britney Spears’ conservatorship, Toxic; her big plans for her garden; all of her health goals and so much more. Plus, Matthew is worried about coffee (again) and Tara has some nice date nights in paradise.

 

Episode 40 - Ed Patrick

It’s time for a six month check-up with doctor, comedian and new author Ed Patrick. We talk about his new book (Catch Your Breath available now), the perils of going on a book tour, the joys of having a dog in the pub, and exciting new developments in his personal life. Plus, Tara and Matthew make a bet on whether the future is cheese or birds.

This week it’s a fun interview with comedian and podcaster Jim Daly (@jimdalycomedy). We talk about fatherhood, football, his new show “Football and Fatherhood”, his podcasts Blank and Five Year Plan, and Matthew pitches him on his campaign to rename of Jim’s favourite football team. Plus, Tara has a trip to the beach that inspires a huge life change and Matthew tries to rewild his lawn.

This episode we catch up with Kieran Mortell (@KieranMortell), Westend comedy legend and an old friend of Tara’s. We hear about his new show Dr Who: Time Fracture, his new dog, his new roommate, his new moustache and Matthew gets on the inside of one of their inside jokes. Plus, Tara’s boys finally go to nursery and Matthew has some very important news about your toaster that could change your life.


Episode 36 – Mary Mack

This week it’s a run-away train of an interview with the thoroughly delightful, Midwestern dynamo that is Mary Mack (@marymackcomedy). We talk about her comedy career, her get rich slow schemes, her cartoon voice work, and we try to convince her to run for office. Plus, Matthew and Tara talk dead royals and come up with a pretty great idea for a movie.

This week we couldn’t figure out the schedule for our guest because Tara went to a Australia and Matthew was pretty sick but here is the intro and outro with Tara making health goals and Matthew making a museum goal. And if they ever figure out when to talk to their guest we’ll update the feed.


Episode 34 – The El-Salomons

Eman El-Husseini (@eman_el_husseini) and Jess Salomon (@jess_salomon) are married pair of individual comedians who also work as a double act the El-Salomons (@theelsalomons) and they both talk to us this week about relationship issues, their podcast Comedians vs. the News, their adorable dog, relationship issues, how much they love Tara’s accent, relationship issues, comedy, Halloween costumes, relationship issues and so much more. It was a real delight. Plus, Tara makes a horrible miscalculation in Ikea and Matthew makes some terrible Halloween costume predictions.


Episode 33 - Susan Denham Wade

This week’s episode is a fun and eye-opening interview with author Susan Denham Wade (@psuedenham)about her fascinating new book A History of Seeing in Eleven Inventions, her family’s struggles with eating disorders, her passion for winter swimming, her viral marketing plan, and how here best ideas for the new James Bond movie were totally ignored. Plus, Tara deals with more challenges of parenting and Matthew tries to get into harps.

Episode 32 – Chris Gethard

We kick off season two with an awesome episode featuring Chris Gethard (@ChrisGeth) and we get into all the big topics like mental health, parenting, and lawn care. We also talk about his new project New Jersey is the World, his podcast Beautiful Anonymous, his new special, the greatest hour of dumpster related content on TV, and his exciting future in retail. Plus, Tara is anxious to get back to Australia and Matthew has high hopes for something called “moving pictures”.

It’s a special episode as we talk to Aaron Birch and Grace Newton-Wordsworth (coincidence!?) of Australian indie rock band Joan and the Giants (and secret to this podcast’s professional sound). Episode 15 - Alice Marshall

This week’s guest, the brilliant comedian, Alice Marshall, hasn’t been doing anything lately. Unless you count being on the new Alan Partridge series, being in a documentary series made by Irving Welsh, writing a new show, planning for al already sold out tour, hanging out with her Tara, and watching a bunch of bride and housewife reality shows. But otherwise not much going on. Also, Tara is driven to the brink of madness by home improvement and Matthew talks her down.

 

Episode 14 - Jacob Hawley

Jacob Hawley (Jacob Hawley: On Love) is a comedian, a podcaster, and a new dad. He joins us this week to discuss the birth of his daughter, the start of a new podcast series with the BBC, and the challenges of writing comedy in a lockdown world. Plus, Tara goes to a wildlife park and does a live show (different trips) and Matthew goes on vacation to Wales to see where they kept The Prisoner!

 

Episode 13 - Harriet Riley

Not only is Harriet Riley a climate scientist working for the United Nations she is also a gifted writer and she has come by to tell us all about all her new writing projects (and there is a lot), being on “Team Climate”, moving back to Australia, and her love of former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dar Hammarskjöld. Plus Matthew has some very exciting news and we put an end to April fools forever.


Episode 12 - Caitlin Durante

This week we have a very emotional episode with Caitlin Durante of The Bechdelcast Podcast. (That emotion: happiness.) It’s a fun conversation about movies (mostly Paddington and Titanic), Spanish, pandemic stress, comedy, screenwriting, podcasting, sterilization, and we even get deep into her name. It’s so comprehensive! Plus, Matthew tries to improve his house and his country and Tara’s husband tries to spice up their relationship.

Legendary Atlanta comedian and “America’s Gay Christian Sweetheart”, Ian Aber (STR8 PPL Podcast) talks to us about his stressful year so far, the diversity of gigs he’s picked up and makes Matthew feel bad about himself. Plus, Mathew remembers a great American and Tara finally has a night out.

 

Episode 10 - Alasdair Beckett-King

No topic is off limits this week as the fabulous Alasdair Beckett-King (Loremen Podcast) talks with Tara and Matthew about all these things and so much more. Also, Matthew has some upsetting news but it’s all okay in the end and Tara makes plans to get her toddlers jobs.  


Episode 09 - Dana Cottrell

This week we talk to Congressional Candidate Dana Cottrell who is (and then was) running for Congress in Matthew's district back in America. We talk about the challenges of running a campaign, how to make a good campaign slogan and then we find out how the election went and what she's doing afterwards. Plus, Tara gets a haircut and Matthew gets new shoes! (Trust us it's more exciting than it sounds.)

Episode 08 - Sam Lake

Sam Lake (or Mrs Amlake as he is known online) tells about his move to Edinburgh, his upcoming marriage, video games, his own new podcast (I’ve Had a Rose Let’s Talk About Feelings), his sweet new ‘stache and finally  comes to terms with his complete inability to name anything. Plus, Tara makes a plan to be alone and tries to help Matthew get over his fear of ghosts.

 

Episode 07 - Andy ZilLig

This week we have on Andy Zillig, an assistant principle in Seattle (also a very old friend of Matthew’s) to discuss his experiences and the challenges (as well as opportunities) with education in the time of COVID-19 as well as birth talk, dog chat, renovation conversations, and some robot rapport. Also, Matthew has a potentially explosive rumour to share and Tara has some expensive problems that make her grateful for what she has (it’s a journey).


Episode 06 - Sharlene and Stuart Wellington

This week we belly-up to the (virtual) bar with Brooklyn based bar baroness Sharlene Wellington (Hinterlands Bar, Minnie’s, Sharlene’s) and her business/life partner Stuart Wellington. We talk to them about the challenges of running an establishment in a time of Covid, customer interactions, neighbourhood politics, how to select the perfect bar name, her new podcast I Know the Owner, his old podcast The Flophouse, and whether the future of dining could be cold pizza. Plus Matthew complains about how has so much “help” to give if only someone would ask and Tara runs afoul of the Home Office.

We catch up with Drew Morgan (Comedian, Writer, Podcaster, Old Friend of Matthew's) while he’s camping and again at home to discuss his television projects, his feelings about fatherhood, his new comedy special, and his attempts to start a benign [fingers crossed] cult through his Into the Abiscuit podcast. Also, Matthew tries to explain his love of WAP (the song) and we get the beginning of the saga of Tara’s new floors and then end it as well.


Episode 04 - Kaytlyn Bailey

Comedian, Sexworker Advocate and host of The Oldest Profession Podcast, Kaytlyn Bailey talks to us twice (Do I need to say that? You get the premise of the podcast.) about her advocay work, quitting her dream job to start her own production company, if possums are having a moment, and embarking on her exciting new #OldProProject which seeks to fund an art build in five cities across the country to celebrate the anniversary of the first sex worker led protest in the United States.

 

Episode 03 - Esther Manito

The woman with the best eyebrows in comedy, Esther Manito, joins us for some talk about puzzles, the movie Puzzle, Lebanon, motherhood, her new podcast No Nation, and her tips for handling family life in lock down. Plus Matthew tells Tara some exciting news that really pays off in the end of the episode and he also tries his hand at political punditry.
